The Meghan Burnett Instrument Fellowship
The Meghan Burnett Instrument Fellowship provides
funds towards the purchase of a musical instrument for
a Wakefield Memorial High School musician. Named for
2018 graduate Meghan Burnett, the fellowship is awarded
annually to one or two selected students in amounts up to
$1000 each. This Fellowship is made possible through the
fund raising efforts of the Meghan Burnett Foundation.
The goal of the fellowship
The purpose of this fellowship is to make it possible for a
student involved in the music program to purchase a
better instrument and thus improve and grow as a
musician. More broadly, the program aims to encourage the
love of music in young musicians so that they continue to
play and love music throughout their lives.
Criteria
To qualify for the award the musician must be a Freshman or Sophomore student at WMHS, involved in any of the instrumental music ensembles there and be committed to continuing to be involved in the music program for the entirety of High School and beyond. ( Upperclassmen may apply but priority will be given to underclassmen.)

Application and Selection Process
Students who would like to be considered for the fellowship must contact the Wakefield Public School Performing Arts Department, and request an application. Write a short personal statement expressing their commitment to music, need for new instrument and how these funds will help further their musical growth and education. The completed application is due no later than Midnight, April 15.
The Meghan Burnett Foundation will work with the Music Director to choose the recipient based on their knowledge of the musician, taking into account their musicianship, motivation, character, dedication, and any other relevant factors as deemed appropriate by the foundation.
The award will be announced at the WMHS Spring Concert in May. The recipient has until September 1 to purchase the instrument as approved by the WMHS Music Director.
